Borneo

For many years it seemed obvious that Borneo was THE hotspot of Nepenthes. While undoubtedly many of the most intersesting species grow there, it is now known, that Sumatra indeed is home of the biggest number of species.

N. lowii (Mulu) Single pitcher.

N. bicalcarata An interesting an bizarre lowlander.

N. campanulata This species, similar as Nepenthes inermis, has a highly reduced peristome. It grows in limestone walls on Borneo. Interestingly it was believed to be extinct until it was rediscovered just a few y...

N. clipeata Interestingly Nepenthes clipeata, only known from Mt. Kelam in Western Kalimantan (Indonesia) grows in cracks and accumulations of soil in the almost vertical rockface of Mt. Kelam. Unfortunately N. clipeata is highly endangered and its chances to survive in the wild seem to be small.

N. ephippiata Nepenthes ephippiata, is related to N. lowii, as can easily seen by studying the photographs on this page. However, many features easily justify the specific rank. N. ephippiata has bigger pitchers...

N. fallax Nepenthes fallax is a very nice and easy species. The colorful slightly funnel-shaped pitchers are very attractive. In the wild it grows in intermediate altidudes which makes it very tolerant to a ...

N. lowii Nepenthes lowii certainly is one of the most unusual and bizarre species of all Nepenthes.

N. muluensis Nepenthes muluensis is a nice small species known from Gunung Mulu and Gunung Murud.

N. tentaculata Nepenthes tentaculata is known to occur in Borneo and Sulawesi. Various forms are frequently found on most peaks reaching 1800 meters or more.

N. veitchii Nepenthes veitchii is well known for the spectacular peristome of adult pitchers. It's an easy plant and a "must" for any collection.

N. villosa Only known from famous Mt. Kinabalu, this plant is THE alpine Nepenthes. It's a nice plant, but difficult in cultivation.

N. x Trusmadiensis Nepenthes x Trusmadiensis is one of the most well known hybrids of all Nepenthes. The parents, both belonging to the most impressive species, make it so unique.
